2010 V/Line Umpire Academy Program:

The dates for the commencement of the 2010 V/Line Umpire Academy Program have been established and can be viewed by clicking here:-

In October of each year, the WorkSafe VCFL Umpiring Department calls for nominations for the V/Line Umpire Academy Program.

Nominations are requested for both the young developing umpires from all disciplines for participation in our Junior Football Programs as well as the leading, more experienced umpires from local Associations that could be considered for selection in a wide-range of umpiring appointments.

When all nominations have been received, the location of the Academies is established and work commences prior to Christmas with members of all the Academies. It is at this pre-Christmas Academy session that Summer training programs are distributed.

Post Christmas – usually in mid February – the Academy Program continues where fitness levels of all participants are usually gauged.

Coaching sessions at the Academy sessions include on-track coaching with discipline-specific coaching groups and also indoor-coaching sessions that range from umpiring philosophies, personal goal-setting, the completion of self-development plans and an outline of what the year ahead will include.

Throughout the season, the Academy sessions are conducted and are often linked in with other Programs.

Recently, participants of the National Umpire Coach Professional Development Program have attended and have conducted skill-based coaching sessions where the participants are exposed to “a different voice” where the expectations of the performances are extremely high.

Throughout 2010, the location of the V/Line Umpire Academies will be in Geelong, Ballarat, Warrnambool, Horsham, Bendigo, Dandenong, Benalla, Mildura and Sale.
